While this city girl was driving the local highways in her dual exhaust 2004 Durango, she tuned into NPR and listened in on an interview with Diane Rehm and the celebrated author George Saunders. They spoke about the convocation address that Saunders delivered at the Syracuse University’s 2013 commencement,which centered on kindness and consequently went viral after the New York Times reprinted it.
Saunders poignantly noted, “What I regret most in my life are failures of kindness …. kindness, it turns out, is hard — it starts out all rainbows and puppy dogs, and expands to include… well, everything.”
