Thanksgiving – The Oy, Ugh and Joy of Relatives

On November 27, 2013 by Janice Taylor

Remember: No one has read the script that you have written for them; nor have you read the script that they have written for you.

Holidays are essentially just like any other day. They are filled with their ups, downs, glitches and unexpected happenings. Whatever your expectations, I invite you to lower them now!!! And YOU take responsibility for the direction of the conversation! As we make it through the holidaze glaze, let’s remember to compliment our friends and family.

You be THE ONE who sets the tone. A happy, holy, healthy and complimentary word to a loved one -or- even to someone you are rather peeved with can have amazing ripple effects.  And, bonus, you can feel good to know that you made a conscious decision to sprinkle the holidays with loving kindness!

Most everyone appreciates a compliment, a word of encouragement, and a bit of recognition. I know, I do! Someone said something nice to me today and it made all the difference. (Thank you kind stranger!) Positive and encouraging comments build confidence and self-esteem.

So, hey, why not? Say something nice to someone! It ain’t gonna’ cost you nothin’, and it’s relatively easy. As you look for the good in others, they will find the good in you.

“You will find what you look for: good or evil, problems or solutions.” ~ John Marks Templeton

Compliments are little offerings of unexpected, no-strings-attached love. They are not asked for; they are not required. They simply let a person know that you recognize their positive light and that they are worthy of notice. If delivered well, a compliment can change the air from static to calm; from negative to positive.

Compliments send out a ripple of kindness. Not only does the recipient of the compliment feel good, so does the giver. Moods are boosted; positivity amplified.

Compliments land successfully only when sincere; when a true reflection of what we are thinking. Faux, syrupy, artificially sweetened compliments will backfire and the deliverer of said fake compliments will appear insincere and untrustworthy.

Be An Angel: Pile on the Praise

The best way to spread the complimentary word (NOT the icing) is to take a moment to notice what’s right and good in a person; something that you genuinely admire, and then find a way to let them know.

Here are some positive character traits that you might be on the look out for.

Kind – Fair- Helpful – Honest – Reliable – Friendly – Brave – Caring – Smart – Funny – Generous -Open minded – Loving – Warm – Positive – Peaceful – Creative – Witty – Cheerful – Flexible – Beautiful – Handsome – Sexy – Good Listener – Joy – Unique – Funny

Wishing you a loving, happy, beautiful holiday!
